Case Study: NuClean vacuum bags

We recently welcomed a new customer to the Stag Print family.

Integrity E-commerce Limited is a Guildford-based business producing a range of household products, including NuClean vacuum cleaner bags sold on Amazon.

When Integrity approached us to produce samples of the vacuum bag boxes to be manufactured in China, we saw opportunities to refine the design in order to achieve a reduction in paperboard and improve productivity for Integrity when they pack the boxes. We then raised an important question: “Do you know that we can manufacture the boxes here?”.

Enhanced efficiency

Stag Print provided several recommendations to increase the packaging efficiency. Originally, hand-glued tabs were required at the bottom, which is labour intensive and time consuming. We proposed using a ‘lock bottom’ design, allowing designed flaps to interlock into place and hold securely without the need for glue. We also changed the structural design of the box, leading to a paper saving of around 15%.

Logistical benefits

With the boxes being made in the UK, there were a lot of logistical benefits too. It was found our costs were in line with China but offering better service and a much quicker turnaround – two weeks versus six to eight. Additionally, a much closer collaboration with the customer was possible, allowing changes to be made to the finish during production, with the customer approving the job on the press before full production. Delivery times were also reduced.

Environmental advantage

Our packaging utilises FSC ® & PEFC certified paper, ensuring sustainability at its core. With the reduction in paper usage bringing an additional environmental bonus. Furthermore, local delivery, instead of relying on overseas shipping, greatly reduced the carbon footprint.

Win-win

As this case study shows, the benefits of producing packaging in the UK rather than abroad are numerous. From local collaboration and enhanced efficiency, to reduced delivery time, paper savings, and reduced CO2 emissions.

Alexander Wingrove, owner of Integrity E-commerce, added:

“We were happy to find a local supplier to produce our boxes right here in the UK. Stag Print worked with us directly to meet our requirements with a quick turnaround too.”
